Device settings
Introduction and orientation
Display output, touch, sound, mouse cursor, layers and device assignment.
The device detail view lets you configure display output, controls and sound, as well as screen behaviour during interaction. Shared account and location rules remain separate from individual device settings.
Steps and settings
Once the device is installed, registered and visible in the system, open its details and configure the following settings.
- Name the device in the Device name field. Choose a name that makes the device easy to identify in the list.
- Assign the device to a Company and Location.
A device is assigned to a Company and a specific Location. Company rules affect its operation; it inherits settings such as opening hours, Application Layer branding and any emergency scenario from its Location.
Shared settings are explained in Your user account and Locations.
- Moving a device to another Company: A server administrator authorised to work with the relevant Companies can change the device’s Company assignment in its detail view. For example, a White Label partner can prepare a player in their own Company and then assign it to the client’s Company. This moves an existing device; it is not a new installation or registration.
- Choose which layers are enabled for publishing.
Enable the presentation layer for automatic campaign playback, the application layer for using applications, or both, depending on the screen’s purpose.
For the differences and transitions, see Two screen layers: campaigns and applications.
- Choose the default application-layer mode.
For each device you choose what opens when the Application Layer is activated. There are two options:
- Kiosk – opens the complete menu of applications available on the device.
- One specific Website application – opens the selected Website application directly instead of the kiosk menu.
You cannot choose any arbitrary application type as the default mode, such as Wheel of Fortune, Quiz, Image or Maze. Direct opening is intended specifically for a Website application.
If you choose Kiosk, skip step 5 and continue with step 6. If you choose a specific Website application, complete step 5 as well.
- For a selected Website application only: check its navigation.
- Choose the website display and controls.
Opening a Website application directly does not automatically mean that it must run without the system controls. The Website application has separate settings for Keyboard, Fullscreen and Controls.
- Arrange custom navigation if system controls are hidden.
If Controls remain enabled, the system provides its own navigation. If you disable them and visitors need, for example, to return to advertising or the kiosk menu, the website’s developer or supplier must add the necessary buttons using the navigation functions described in this guide. Fullscreen display does not in itself require the system controls to be disabled.
A typical example is a shopping-centre map: advertisements play on the screen, a visitor touches it and the web map opens directly. If the map runs fullscreen without the system controls, its own buttons can use the navigation functions described in this guide to return to the Presentation Layer or perform other navigation.
- Choose the website display and controls.
- Set the display resolution and orientation. The device detail view contains the display resolution and orientation settings. These must match the connected screen and its intended use.
- Set the touch-layer orientation. If the device has a touch layer, its orientation is also configurable. After changing the orientation, check that touch input corresponds to the point the visitor taps on the screen.
- Set the device location.
The latitude and longitude in device settings determine the location for which the player retrieves weather data. They are used to evaluate weather conditions for dynamic visuals.
For using weather data to select campaign visuals, see Weather-based targeting
- Enable sound and set the maximum volume. Device settings let you enable sound and set the maximum volume. Check the result by playing content with sound on the target screen.
Working speakers and a suitable audio path are also required. If you cannot hear sound, check the speaker connections and, if needed, the player’s audio output. How to check the audio output →
- Choose whether to show the mouse pointer. When using a connected mouse, you can show or hide the cursor. Enable it temporarily when operating a non-touchscreen; hide it again after service work unless it should remain visible during normal operation.
Mouse use when opening the service menu is explained in Access the service menu.
Verify the touch transition for both application-layer modes.
- On the device, keep both the Presentation and Application layers enabled.
- As the default Application Layer mode, choose Kiosk when visitors should select from multiple applications, or a specific Website application when it should open directly.
- Publish the required applications to the device.
- On the screen, verify the touch transition from the presentation layer to the application layer.
