Remote screen view and control

Remote preview shows captured images from the player. The portal offers two capture modes; their scope and speed depend on the version and platform. During diagnosis, check what the preview actually shows rather than relying only on the mode label. It is not a recording of every played advertising spot.

Preview frame rate (FPS): the next image is requested after the previous one arrives. There is no fixed FPS setting; the result depends on capture, image processing, device performance and the network. It is separate from the playback frame rate on the screen.

Remote control lets you operate the device from a distance. During service work, the technician can see the screen and interact with it without visiting the display. The remote view is used to check the image; remote control enables active intervention.

Typical use: a customer reports that the screen is showing something unexpected. First check the device status in Monitoring, then open the remote screen view. If intervention is needed, use the available remote control or service commands. This allows many support issues to be resolved without a technician visit.

Commands tab

The Commands tab is the service section of the device detail. Use it when you need to resynchronise, restart or technically inspect a device. Normal publishing does not require these commands: ordinary content changes are distributed automatically by the server.

  • Campaign synchronization: Requests a fresh synchronisation of campaigns intended for the device. Use it during service checks to verify that the device is working with the current set of campaigns.
  • Application synchronization: Requests synchronisation of applications published on the device. Use it to check whether the device has the current application content.
  • Configuration synchronization: Requests the current device configuration from the server, including operational settings that apply to the device.
  • Restart application: Restarts the system client application without restarting the entire player/computer. This is an appropriate first service step when the client application is not behaving correctly.
  • Restart device: Restarts the whole player/computer. Use it when a complete device reboot is required rather than only restarting the system application.
  • Update: Updates the system client on the device. The Dashboard can recommend an update with an Application version outdated status when an older client does not support a newer function or application.
  • Remote console: Provides remote service access and diagnostics for the device. It is intended for technical administration when the information available in the standard administration is not sufficient.
Remote console access: Server Administrator and higher roles only. The device must be online and communicating with the server. Commands run on the player, not on your computer.

For access requirements and command usage, see Remote console – how to use it →

    • Remote technical support from your software provider: In addition to the remote view and control available for normal administration, your software provider’s technical support also has remote service access through a command line, similar to working in a Linux terminal.

This access is intended for advanced diagnostics, configuration checks and service operations beyond the capabilities of a normal user. Support can inspect system state, diagnose technical issues and perform required software or configuration actions remotely.

Many issues can therefore be resolved completely remotely without a technician travelling to the screen. An on-site visit is only required when the issue cannot be resolved through software, remote configuration or diagnostics.

Recommended order of intervention

Start with the least invasive step: Monitoring → remote screen view → synchronise the relevant content → restart the application → restart the device. A full player restart should not be the first response to an ordinary content issue.

Removing a device

Removing a device from the administration interface is different from restarting it or reinstalling the entire system. Before removal, check the assigned content and any warnings shown by the interface. If the system does not allow removal, follow the specific message or contact your software provider.

The existing guide explains how an online player behaves after receiving a removal command and how it returns to the registration screen: Player registration – re-registering without reinstalling. Do not confuse removal of the entry with a completed system reinstallation.
